Nitty Gritty

The Suttle Lodge & Boathouse will provide up to 14 nights of lodging, as well as a small stipend of $200 for food and beverage at our onsite restaurant. Our full service restaurant and bar is open year round at the Lodge.

Airfare and all other transportation are the responsibility of the resident. The Suttle Lodge can assist with coordinating transportation to/from the Redmond airport with advanced notice. Additional overnight guests are not allowed during the residency, but visitors wishing to stay at the Lodge during the residency may book at a VIP rate.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome but will be your responsibility to house, feed, and take care of. Any damages to the property will be your responsibility.

The Suttle Lodge is located off Highway 20, 17 miles west of Sisters, Oregon. This is a remote location with limited cell and wifi service. Wifi service is only available inside the Lodge, not in any of the cabins. A land line will be made available in the Lodge during your stay. Our address is 13300 Hwy 20, Sisters, OR 97759.

Cozy up in Cabin 8

Participants in this program take over Rustic Cabin 8 for the entirety of their stay, for up to 14 nights. The cabin is a small, wooden, studio cabin with heat and electricity. Within, you will find one queen bed with basic linens, a narrow set of twin bunk beds, a small seating/work area with stand up height desk and chair, a mirror, electric water kettle, double induction-burner cooktop, small electric oven, small refrigerator, french press, water carafe with glassware, and a Traeger grill.

This cabin does not have running water (no bathroom, no sink), but a bathhouse with a private shower is very close by. While Rustic 8 is not ADA accessible, we have alternative accommodations on property if this is a consideration - reach out to us to learn more.

Studio Space

The Suttle lodge & Boathouse was envisioned as a public space that naturally promotes conviviality and sharing - this means that there is no private studio space outside of your cabin. Any public space on the property is open and welcome to be used as a workspace so long as no guest is disturbed or displaced, and no alterations to the space or objects are made. The Suttle Lodge will not take any responsibility for any personal possessions of the artist.

Our beloved location in the Deschutes National Forest makes for a natural inclination to take full advantage of the woods and the lake shore. Cabin 8 makes for unique acoustics for musicians and recording artists, a quiet place of solace for writing, and an intimate place for creative contemplation and creation. The cabin does not allow for large scale art or construction. The cabin is not available for alterations to its structure. Please note that the artists will be responsible for any damages or alterations to the cabin or property and will be subject to damage fees.

At the Table

A Communal Welcome Meal will be organized at the beginning of each residency. Our staff at the Lodge is small and mighty. Breaking bread and sharing stories is one of our favorite ways to get to know one another and guests. This welcome meal allows the guest artist to interact with staff while enjoying beautiful food  prepared by our talented chef.

Artist's Giveback:

We would love to see any work that develops as a result of this unique period at the lake, and ask that images, stories, cassette tapes, paintings, theses, zines, illustrations, perfumes, etcetera be shared with The Lodge and that The Suttle Lodge & Boathouse be credited in any completed work where appropriate.

We ask that all guest artists be open and available for conversation with Lodge guests about their work. Additionally, we ask that artists contribute to The Suttle Lodge’s Instagram “stories” for a short period during their stay, and that any other social media engagement during time of residency and beyond mention @suttlelodge with the geotag, “The Suttle Lodge & Boathouse”.
