AIR 2022
Applications now open
The Cabin 8 Artist Residency Program at The Suttle Lodge was created to provide an opportunity for artists and thinkers to commune with nature, the seasonal elements, and their work. We welcome artists and thinkers across all disciplines to apply including illustrators, writers, musicians, spoken word poets, dancers, PhD candidates, etcetera.
The Suttle Lodge offers a private space to retreat and inhabit a simple, wooden structure nestled in the eastern nook of Suttle Lake in the Deschutes National Forest. This is a place for you to work through that writer's block, paint en plein air, record one hand clapping in the woods, choreograph a dance with the lakeshore waves, create a new perfume scent, track wildlife, finish that libretto or whatever else your thing is.
Artists of all disciplines are invited to apply. The residency lasts approximately 2 weeks and culminates with a Sunday show-and-tell. Residencies span January 2022 through May 2022, with an application deadline of September 15th, 2021 11pm, and a selection announcement by November 1st, 2021.
Whichever artistic discipline is practiced, the Sunday show-and-tell is a publicly advertised event and a platform for the artist to share their story with the public, Lodge guests and staff.
During the show, artists have the freedom to share past, present or future work; musings; ideas; stories, etc. While this residency does not require that project proposals be completed during the stay, as the Lodge’s “in-house artist”, guest residents are encouraged to engage with Lodge guests throughout their retreat and present work at the Sunday event.
